Biographical History

Leonard and Virginia Woolf assembled this collection of 49 maps, which once formed part of their library. The large number of road maps attest to their enjoyment of driving vacations around Europe. Of particular interest are two maps (numbers 2 and 3) of Rodmell, England; where in 1919, Leonard and Virginia Woolf purchased a country home. It was in this home, named Monk’s House (though it was never inhabited by monks), that Virginia Woolf wrote Jacob’s Room. Maps 2 and 3 were bound and titled by Virginia Woolf and contain annotations by Leonard Woolf.
