Poet and Oriental scholar. Publications include "A net of fireflies" (1960), "A chime of windbells" (1969), "The exiled immortal" (1980), "Tannisho" (1980) and "By the old walls of Kyoto" (1981). Lived in Japan from 1966 until his death.

Poet and Oriental scholar. In 1943 Stewart and James McAuley perpetrated the Ern Malley hoax against "Angry penguins" publisher Max Harris. Publications include "A net of fireflies" (1960), "A chime of windbells" (1969), "The exiled immortal" (1980), "Tannisho" (1980) and "By the old walls of Kyoto" (1981). Lived in Japan from 1966 until his death.
