American explorer and writer.
Sylvester Mowry (1830-1871) was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed at Vancouver Barraracks, Washington Territory.
Meteorologist with Isaac Stevens's 1853 Pacific railroad survey (northern route) which attempted to locate a route through the Cascade Mountains to Puget Sound; graduate of West Point in 1848; later was closely identified with mining speculation in Arizona Territory.
