Charles Follen Adams was a dealer in dry and fancy goods in Boston, Mass., who achieved great popularity as the author of German dialect verse. His most famous piece was "Leedle Yawcob Strauss" (1876).

Adams was born on April 21, 1842 to Ira and Mary Elizabeth (Senter) Adams in Dorchester, Massachusetts. A businessman by trade, Adams is also known for his dialectic poems, including “Leedle Yawcob Strauss” (1876), for which he is most well known. Married in 1870 to Hattie Louise Mills, they had two children, Charles Mills and Ella Paige Adams (married name: Sawyer.)
