Biographical History
Lawyer, politician, and Confederate officer of the 4th regiment, S.C. Cavalry.
South Carolina attorney, state representative, and Confederate officer. Benjamin Huger Rutledge was born in Stateburg, S.C., and in 1858 married Eleanor Marian Middleton. That same year he was chosen captain of the Charleston Light Dragoons. During the Civil War, Rutledge obtained the rank of colonel. After the war he resumed the practice of law in partnership with Henry Edward Young. Rutledge was also active in state politics after the war and was asked by Gov.
