Stillman, Lulu G. Mrs.

Mrs. Lulu G. Stillman served as stenographer for Assemblyman Edward Everett from 1920 until the latter part of the decade. Everett was was appointed by Assembly Speaker Thaddeus Sweet to serve on the New York State Indian Commission (1919-1922), which Everett would chair throughout its existence. The commission visited tribal leaders from Reservations throughout New York State to determine their land claim status. Beacause of its controversial nature (the final report determined the New York State Indians had legal claim to six million acres as stated in the treaty of 1784) the report was rejected for filing by the New York State Legislature on March 17, 1922. The report was eventually released in 1971.
