Biographical History
Bethesda Lutheran was organized December 12, 1900 by Rev. P. L. C. Hansen from Bethany Lutheran in Portland, Oregon. In 1901 the first church was built on three acres of land on Danebo Avenue. In 1908 it was moved to its present location. A large basement was added to the building in 1922. A new church, parsonage, parsonage and a six acre Memorial Park were completed between 1940 and 1949. Bethesda’s Golden Jubilee was celebrated in December of 1950. In 1953 a large parish hall, kitchen and 17 classrooms were completed. In order to appropriately celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the congregation in 1975 it was decided to remodel the church sanctuary and to establish a Mission 75 Outreach program.
