Biographical History

Bradford Monthly Meeting was established in 1737 by Chester [Concord] Quarterly Meeting. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Bradford Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) merged with Uwchlan Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1883 to form Bradford & Uwchlan Monthly Meeting. This meeting was discontinued in 1901. Bradford Monthly Meeting (Orthodox), which reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1955, was the forerunner of the present-day Bradford Monthly Meeting.

From the description of Minutes of the Committee appointed by Bradford Monthly Meeting to inspect and report the sufferings of the Friends occasioned by the Revolutionary War / now bound in one volume . . . by Gilbert Cope, 1777-1791. (Swarthmore College). WorldCat record id: 30054999
