Southern Methodist minister, U.S. Government Indian Agent. Upon ordination went to Oklahoma, where he opened churches and led successful drive for statewide prohibition (1907). Indian Agent for western states (1915-1921). Moved to Arizona as agent for Pacific Mutual Life Insurance (1921-1924), then transferred to Stockton (Calif.) where he retired. In later years traveled widely with Southern Methodist Bishop Arthur Moore, who was involved with missionary activities in China, Japan, Korea, the Belgian Congo and eastern Europe. Sweet's papers and photographs provide a view of reservation life during years immediately preceding promulgation of reforms instigated by John Collier (1930s).
