Tarea Hall Pittman was a native of Bakersfield, Calif., a member of one of the pioneer families of Kern County. She received her B.A. degree from San Francisco State College and a Master of Social Welfare degree from the University of California, Berkeley. While attending Berkeley she began a career in radio, founding the program "Negroes in the news" with which she would be affiliated for many years. Always active in civic affairs, Pittman accepted an appointment as field secretary for the NAACP, heading the West Coast Regional Office until she retired in 1970.

She received her BA degree from San Fancisco Stae Collega and a Master of Social Welfare degree from the University of California, Berkeley. While attending Berkeley, she began a career in radio, founding the program "Negroes in the news" with which she would be affiliated for many years. Always acrive in civic affairs, Pittman began her affiliation with the NAACP by accepting an appointment as field secretaty. She later headed the West Coast Regional Office until her retirement in 1970.
