Jane Van de Vrede was a federal official, nursing administrator, bacteriologist, researcher, and pioneer in Georgia public health. Her contributions included establishing higher educational standards for Georgia nurses during 1920-1930 and serving either as president or on the board of directors of nearly every organization concerned with the nursing profession. Ms. Van de Vrede also served as State Director of Women and Professional Projects (later the Division of Professional and Service Projects) for the Georgia W.P.A. during the New Deal era. She worked in the Atlanta area most of her adult life.
