Biographical History

The Equinox Cooperative Press was founded in 1931 by Lynd Ward and a group of talented designers, illustrators, and writers whom he had invited to join in a cooperative enterprise dedicated to publishing works of literary significance that large commercial publishers were neglecting. The mission of the press was also to produce books that enabled the graphic arts to illumine and enhance the authors' work. Sixteen titles, including works by William Faulkner, Thomas Mann, Conrad Aiken, and D.H. Lawrence, were published by Equinox before the press was dissolved on Dec. 9, 1939.
