Biographical History
Egmont Francis Koenig (1892-1974) was born in New York City. He received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1912, and was enlisted as a private in the British Army in 1914 and 1915. He received his commission in the U.S. infantry in 1916, and served with the 21st Infantry in World War I. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1933, and was an instructor there from 1935 to 1940. He was commandant of the AAF Intelligence School from 1942 to 1944, and reached the rank of brigadier general in May 1944. He was commander of all base sections in North Africa in 1944, then the United Kingdom, Normandy and the English Channel in 1945. He reverted to the rank of colonel in March 1946, and retired from Army service in May 1948.
