Biographical History

Feminist and historian Margaret R. Hunt studied music at Pennsylvania State University (1970-1972) and Radcliffe College (A.B. 1976). While at Radcliffe she was a member of the Radcliffe Union of Students and the Radcliffe Women's Center Collective, and advocated establishment of a women's studies concentration at Harvard. She was also a member of the Radcliffe Crew, active in gay and lesbian groups, and a volunteer at Transition House, a battered women's shelter. After graduating from Harvard Divinity School (M.T.S. 1978), she worked in Juneau, Alaska, for the Women in Transition Program, an economic development project. In 1986 she received her doctorate in history from New York University, and began teaching at Amherst College where she is now a full professor.
