Biographical History

Max Kriss (1894-1941) was an animal nutritionist and educator. Born in Russia, he came to the United States in 1910, and was educated at the Pennsylvania State College and Yale. He returned to the Penn State faculty as associate professor (1929; professor 1936 to 1941), working with Dr. Henry P. Armsby in the Institute of Animal Nutrition. He was widely known for his research and publications in the field of animal nutrition. His son, Joseph P. Kriss, was a noted researcher in medical science, head of the Radiology Department at Stanford Medical School, an artist, and a distinguished alumnus of Penn State.
