Biographical History
Samuel Hugh Dillin was born in Petersburg, Indiana on 9 June 1914. Educated at Indiana University, Dillin received degrees in government and law and went into private practice with his father in Petersburg. He was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives and later the Indiana State Senate. In 1961 President Kennedy appointed him to the federal bench where he served until his retirement in 2001. During his career Judge Dillin presided over important cases such as the desegregation of Indianapolis and Evansville public schools, the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum explosion, overcrowding at the Marion County Jail and the Indiana State Reformatory, and the Marble Hill nuclear power plant cancellation. After a career that spanned six decades Judge Dillin died on 13 March 2006 .
