Biographical History

Belle Wooden was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Wooden of Centerville, Iowa. She attended Centerville schools and Grinnell College. In 1896 she married Nate Kendall, a practicing attorney in Albia who went on to become Iowa's 23rd governor in 1921. The couple resided for a time in Washington, D.C. during Kendall's tenure as a U.S. congressman. Belle Kendall was actively involved in club work including the Centerville chapter of P.E.O. When the couple left Albia for Des Moines Belle donated the Kendall home to the Albia Women's Club.
