Biographical History

Nancy Grey Osterud was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 15, 1948, the daughter of Kenneth Leland and Dorothy Wellington Osterud; she graduated from Radcliffe College in 1971. She was a member of the Boston women's collective Bread and Roses, Harvard-Radcliffe Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and the November Action Coalition, which protested on campus against U.S. action in Vietnam. She spent the summer of 1970 in Seattle, organizing the Anna Louise Strong Brigade (a federation of women's groups) and a regional women's conference in Eugene, Oregon. In 1972-73 she visited Berkeley, California, and participated in the formation of the Bay Area Women's Union. In 1974 she was involved in the New American Movement and in 1975, while attending graduate school at Brown University, was active in the Socialist Feminist Caucus of Women of Brown United.
