Biographical History

The Seattle Seamen's Center was founded in 1917 to provide services for seamen whose ports were located in Seattle. It first focused on Scandinavian seamen but eventually opened its door to sea faring men of all nationalities. The Seamen's Center was the only institution of its kind owned and operated by the ELCA, and was comprised of two sections: the Seattle Seamen's Mission and the Seattle Seamen's Home.
