American Army Officer.

Powell Clayton served as governor of Arkansas, 1868-1871, and as a United States senator from Arkansas, 1871-1877. In 1882 he settled in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where he built the Eureka Springs Railway. He was appointed minister to Mexico in 1897 and served as ambassador to Mexico, 1899-1905.
