Biographical History

Asenath Clark was born on January 15, 1780 in Granby, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, and she died at the New Lebanon, New York, Shaker community on December 19, 1857, less than one month shy of her seventy-eighth birthday. Clark signed the covenant on June 24, 1801 and eventually became a family deaconess in the First Order. She participated in carpet making at New Lebanon. With Ebenezer and Rufus Bishop and Polly Landon, Clark exercised society leadership from 1821-1848, serving as assistant eldress. In this capacity, she signed the revised version of the "Millennial Laws" of October 1845.
