Biographical History

Edward F. Arn was born on May 19, 1906, and grew up in Kansas City and Muncie. In college Arn attended Kansas City Junior College, the University of Kansas, and in 1931, he graduated from the Kansas City School of Law. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1930 and the Kansas Bar in 1931. Early in his career Arn had a private law practice and also worked as an investigator for the Kansas Highway Commission. During WWII Arn served as a lieutenant and security officer on board an aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. Arn was active in the Republican Party as early as his university days. He served as campaign chairman for both Payne Ratner and Andrew Schoeppel. Arn also was the state's attorney general and served on the Kansas Supreme Court. In 1950 he ran for governor, won and was re-elected in 1952. In 1972 the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court appointed Arn to chair the Judicial Study Advisory Committee. Arn died in 1998.
