Biographical History
Charles William Walters, born in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduated from Butler University in 1935 and attended the University of Chicago. He entered the United States Army in 1941, and was appointed to New York University's College of Engineering, Department of Meteorology, in late 1942. He became a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and was stationed in meteorology offices at air force bases in the United States before reporting for service in the South Pacific in late 1944. Walters predicted weather for the United States Army Air Corps from stations in New Guinea and the Admiralty Islands. After V-J Day he became part of the occupational forces in the Pacific, stationed in Manila and Okinawa. He married Marthana McWhir in 1957, and the union produced two children.
