Biographical History
Late in the 1800s, Mr. E. R. Brown donated a plot of ground at the corner of Peninsula and Kirkpatrick Streets as a site for a church. Rev. Dietrich conducted the first Lutheran service on the Peninsula, the date of which is not known. Some time later August Kenter, a retired pastor who lived in the area, was instrumental in petitioning young pastor C. F. W. Allwardt of St. Paul’s church of Portland to conduct the worship services. The congregation organized in 1891 under the name of St. John’s Lutheran Church. In 1926 the church relocated to Lombard Street and the name was changed to Peninsula Peace Lutheran. The church at that site was dedicated December 4, 1927. The name prevailed until 1951 when the congregation moved to its present location and the name changed to Peace Lutheran. The present church was dedicated in February of 1952. The 75th anniversary was celebrated in 1966.
