Biographical History

Mildmay Fane, 2nd Earl of Westmorland (d. 1666), was the eldest son of Francis Fane, 1st Earl. He attended Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and served as the Member of Parliament for Peterborough, 1621 and 1626-1628, and Kent, 1625. He was created Knight of the Bath in 1625. Fane supported the king at the outbreak of the Civil War, and was fined and sequestrated by Parliament in 1642. The sequestation was discharged in 1644, and he became joint Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire in 1660. Fane had his collection of poems, Otia sacra, printed privately in 1648. He died on 12 February 1666.

William Wake (d. 1661) attended Emmanuel College and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was ordained deacon and priest in 1622, and was Chaplain to the Earl of Westmorland, before becoming Rector of Holy Trinity, Wareham, in Dorset, 1625-1661.
