Biographical History
Charles Waldstein, 1856-1927, art historian and archeologist. Born New York City, studied at Columbia University and received his PhD at the University of Heidelberg. Traveled to Greece and Rome and joined the faculty at Cambridge in 1880 as a lecturer. Became Professor of Greek Art in 1883 there. Also appointed Director of Fitzwilliam Museum in 1883 and while still holding these positions he joined the American School of Archeology in Athens. His reputation was gained by his discoveries. He also published in the field of art history.
