Mykola Haydak, Ingeneur of Agronomy degree, Polytechnic Institute at Praha (Ukraine); Ph.D., University of Wisconsin (1933). Professor of entomology at the University of Minnesota (1933-1966). World renowned expert on bees and bee nutrition.
Mykola Haydak (1898-1971) came to the United States from Ukraine in 1930. He received his Ph.D. in entomology with a specialty in bee culture from the University of Wisconsin and then taught at the University of Minnesota. His research interests focused on bee biology and physiology and the nutritional values of honey. He published extensively in these fields and belonged to many professional societies.
Mykola Haydak (1898-1971) came to the United States from Ukraine in 1930. He received his Ph. D. in entomology with a specialty in bee culture from the University of Wisconsin and then taught at the University of Minnesota. Mykola Hryhor Haydak was born on 12 May 1898 in the Ukraine. He graduated with distinction from the College of Agriculture and Forestry at the Polytechnic Institute (Praha, Ukraine). He earned the equivalent of a master's degree from the Agricultural Academy at Podebrady, Czechoslovakia. Haydak worked for almost three years at the State Bee Culture Institute of Czechoslovakia as a scientific aide. He immigrated to the United States in 1930 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1933.
Haydak joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1933 as professor of entomology and economic zoology. He was known throughout the world for his research on bee nutrition. He retired in 1966, but continued to conduct research at the University. Mykola Haydak died on 12 August 1971.
