Biographical History

The Kansas Advisory Council on Civil Rights (KACCR) was organized in 1959 under the authority of the Kansas Act Against Discrimination. The purpose of this voluntary organization was to provide a link between the local communities and the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights. The members of the KACCR undertook to identify local discrimination problems, promote anti-discrimination laws and good human relations. The KACCR conducted an extensive legislative campaign in behalf of the Public Accommodations Bill, which passed the Kansas Legislature in 1963. The Council's greatest efforts were directed toward effectuating a fair housing law for Kansas, which culminated in the Kansas Fair Housing Act (1970). In 1973 the KACCR dissolved and has since remained inactive.
