U.S. Naval officer.
President of the United States Board of Navy Commissioners.
John Rodgers was born in Maryland in 1773. He joined the Navy in the 1790s and served in the Quasi War with France, the war with the Barbary pirates and the War of 1812. He was head of the Board of Naval Commissioners until retiring in 1837. His son and grandson served in the U.S. Navy.
