Biographical History
Kevin Jennings, Kathy Henderson and Bob Parlin joined together in 1989 to form the small Gay, Lesbian Independent School Teachers' Network out of Massachusetts. In 1992, through a desire to include public school teachers in the group, GLISTN became the Gay, Lesbian School Teachers' Network. When support for the organization grew, through increased visibility, training programs and nationwide conferences, the board decided to expand and encourage the scope of its membership to encompass all people who would be aiding the cause to insure every person in every school would be valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation. In 1994 the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network was born and continues the work begun by the GLISTN founders.
