Biographical History

Lyman Bronson Hall was born in Richmond, Vermont in 1852. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1872 and received the B.D. degree from Harvard University in 1877 and a second B.D. with the A.M. degree from Oberlin Theological Seminary in 1878. He also studied at Union Theological Seminary in the 1870s and at the University of Berlin, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Chicago, and Harvard University. He taught in Oberlin College's Preparatory Department (1872-1873); was Tutor in Latin and Greek (1878-1883); Associate Professor of Latin and Greek (1883-1888); Professor of Latin (1888-1899), and Professor of History (1899-1918). He served as Registrar of the college from 1901 to 1903. In 1878, Hall married classmate Ada E. Hitchcock (b. 1851), who died in 1892. In 1899, he married Caroline I. Caldwell. Hall died in 1918.
