Biographical History
Julia Porter's interest in community and political activities began when she joined the League of Women Voters in the 1930s. She served on the San Francisco Planning Commission from 1943 to 1976, was a co-founder of the San Francisco Housing and Planning Association (which became the San Francisco Planning and Urban Renewal Association), was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee from 1941 to 1960, and worked with other groups including the United Negro College Fund Drive and the San Francisco Muscular Dystrophy Association.
