Biographical History
The 150th (sesquicentennial) anniversary celebration of the University of Florida was a year long celebration from the official start during the week of January 6, 2003 to its closing in December 2003. The 150th Celebration committee, whose director was Karen Willis, started planning for programs (as lectures, speakers, outreach), events (as convocations, dedications, honors), publications, festivities, public relations work, and souvenirs in the year 2002. The celebration committee called on assistance from the entire university community (colleges, departments, units, organizations, and centers) for the year long observance of this landmark anniversary. The members of the committee were assigned to various subcommittees which included: opening and closing events; marketing and public relations; calendar coordination; sponsorships; government relations; and advisors.
