Biographical History
Part of a plan to render the company self-sufficient, Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company purchased over 313,000 acres of timberland and two iron mines in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the early 1920s. In 1954, Ford Motor Company donated the town of Alberta, Michigan and 1700 acres (7 km²) of land to what is now the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University.
