Biographical History
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church came into being as a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 24, 1951 when a call was accepted by Rev. O. R. Kleppe of Bremerton, Washington to serve the people in the River Road-Santa Clara area just north of Eugene. A parsonage was purchased in June of 1951, Sunday School was organized July 1, and Vacation Bible School began July 9. The first council was elected on August 3 and on August 29 the constitution was adopted and a name selected. Groundbreaking services for the construction of the first unit were held on February 24, 1952, the cornerstone was laid October 5, and the first service in the new building was held October 12. In October of 1960 an educational unit with thirteen classrooms, fellowship hall, library, offices, and storage space was dedicated.
