Brewer, Joseph, b. 1820?

Joseph W. Brewer was born in approximately 1820 in either Maryland or Pennsylvania, and married a woman from Virginia named Martha. Both are listed in the 1860 census as mulatto. Together they had four children, Augustus Brewer (born circa 1855), Joseph A. Brewer (born circa 1857), Martha Brewer (born circa 1860) and Maggie Brewer (born circa 1862). In 1860, Joseph W. Brewer worked as a waiter in Baltimore, Maryland, and he died between 1862 and 1870 in or near Washington, D.C. Joseph A. Brewer married a woman named Alice in 1886 and had four children of his own, Augusta Brewer, Alma Brewer, Martha Brewer and Joseph Brewer. He was an upholsterer and his wife was a dressmaker in Washington, D.C.
