Biographical History

The Australian Council of National Trusts (ACNT) was formed in 1965 and is located in Canberra. It is the national coordinating body which represents the eight autonomous Australian State and Territory National Trusts. The ACNT also acts as a forum for discussion and information exchange. As the national secretariat, the ACNT liaises with the State and Territory Trusts and a variety of external organisations such as the Australian Conservation Foundation, Historical Garden Society and UNESCO, and provides guidelines to government and community bodies on heritage matters.
