Biographical History
Elisha Ayer, a native of Haverhill, Mass., early in his life moved to Pepperellborough (Saco) in Maine. A highly successful business man and trader owning all of Cutt's Island (now Factory Island) he married Mary, the sister of Senator James McLellan, and moved to Newfield, Maine, in 1790 to become the scion of one of the town's leading families. He was the principal proprietor of Washington Plantation and his farm was located just south of Symmes Pond.
Landowner, of Newfield, Me.; bought 1/2 of Newfield in 1779 and then sold lots, beginning in 1780.
