Lampman, Leonard Bronk.

Leonard Bronk Lampman was a descendant of the Dutch settler Peter Bronck and the Revolutionary War Doctor John Ely. The family owned the Bronk House, situated near Coxsackie, New York. It is now owned and operated as a historic site by the Greene County Historical Society.

Doctor John Ely was a physician in the state of Connecticut prior to the American Revolution. During the war he formed a regiment and was eventually captured by the British in 1777. Ely was held at Flatbush, N.Y. on Long Island. During his period of captivity he served as the physician to the American officers who were also held there until he was released in 1781. After the war Ely petitioned congress for remuneration of the considerable expenses he incurred as the prisoners' physician. Congress did not compensate him. In 1832 the issue was again brought before Congress by his son, John, Jr. Congress granted the funds to his son.

John Ely, Jr. was also a physician and was the great grandfather of Leonard Bronk Lampman.
