Fish, Hamilton, 1926-1996.

Hamilton Fish, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. on June 3, 1926, served from New York State in the United States House of Representatives from 1969-1995. He was awarded a seat on the Judiciary Committee during his first term and remained there until his retirement, eventually rising in seniority to the position of ranking minority member. In 1974, he was one of the few Republicans on the Judiciary Committee to break party ranks in casting votes affirming articles of impeachment brought against President Richard Nixon. During the 1980's Fish was also involved in impeachment proceedings brought against Harry E. Claiborne and Alcee Lamar Hastings, both of whom were federal court justices. Congressman Fish was actively involved in the passage of the Fair Housing Act, Voting Rights Act extension, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the 1990 Civil Rights Act extension. Hamilton Fish retired from Congress in 1994. He passed away in Washington, D.C. July 23, 1996.
