Biographical History

The William Leverett family moved to Albuquerque in 1915 because William Leverett, Sr. had tuberculosis. William Leverett, Sr. recovered from his illness and began a new career in real estate in 1919. He was responsible for developing the Monte Vista subdivision in Nob Hill, 1926, among other ventures. The Monte Vista subdivision was possibly the first curvilinear subdivision in New Mexico, following natural contours, rather than the typical grid pattern. Lots in the development cost approximately $400 when they first became available.

From the guide to the Oral History Interview with William Leverett Jr., 1985 Oct. 22, (University of New Mexico. Center for Southwest Research.)
