Biographical History
The Chicago Union Printers Baseball Association was founded in the spring of 1908 by members of the Chicago Typographical Union Number 16. In the late summer of 1908, the Chicago team, along with teams from Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Washington, and Pittsburgh participated in the first Union Printers International Baseball League tournament, hosted by New York City.
The Chicago Union Printers Baseball Association was a member of the Union Printers International Baseball League and founded in 1908. The Baseball Association operated a team known as the Chicago Typos that was formed from members of the Chicago Typographical Union #16. In later years, the Typos opened membership to all members of the Communications Workers of America along with their family. Affiliated printer teams played in local semi-pro leagues and met other Union Printer teams in an annual tournament. These tournaments would be held in the city's major league ballpark, but are now played in Kissimmee, Florida. The Chicago teams won championships in 1911, 1916, 1927, 1930, 1936 and 1975 and has hosted the tournament seven times through 1984.
