Cornelia Marvin Pierce (1873-1957) earned her library degree from the Armour Institute in Chicago in 1896. After serving as the secretary of the Oregon Library Commission in 1905, she became the first Oregon State Librarian and greatly expanded the book program by her retirement in 1928, when she married Oregon Governor Walter M.
