Rhodes, F. Arlie (Francis Arlington), 1908-1988.

F. Arlie Rhodes, a native of Woodville, Florida, was a prominent educator in Florida and Mississippi. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Florida in school administration, and took post-doctoral work in school finance at Columbia University. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve (1942-1946), spending 20 months of active service in the South Pacific.

Rhodes served as Leon County Superintendent of Public Instruction, 1937-1945; specialist, Florida Dept. of Education, 1951-1960; professor, Florida State University, 1954-1961; dean, College of Education, Mississippi State University, 1961-1970; administrator, Florida Public School Council, 1970-1971; and director, Florida Dept. of Education, 1971-1972. In additional to his distinguished career in education, Rhodes was an active community leader particularly interested in local history. He was also a leader in the Catholic community. He was a parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and helped establish the St. Stephen Catholic Mission in Woodville. He died in Tallahassee in 1988.
