Orlando D. Miller graduated with the Norwich University class of 1845. He had a varied career encompassing railroad engineering, law and the Universalist ministry. Miller wrote many articles for popular, religious and archaeological publications. He was a classical scholar who spent many years in the study of ancient languages, particularly Cuneiform. Miller also became interested in the field of "physical culture," what today might be referred to as strength conditioning. He was married to Cornelia Matilda Burton (d. 1895) in 1848 and the couple had three daughters.
