Biographical History
Formerly known as School of Nursing Alumnae Association.
The School of Nursing Alumnae Association was formed in 1900 and changed its name to the Nurses Alumni Association in 1969. The name was changed again in 1993, to the Nursing Alumni Society, and administrative control was placed within the School of Nursing. Still an active organization, its purpose is to advance the interests of the University of Michigan School of Nursing and to promote good fellowship among graduates.
Planning reunions is only one activity of the Association. Its members also offer the Shirley C. Titus Scholarship to a nursing student each year. The Scholarship was started by the graduating class of 1930 with $250. By 1980, the endowment had grown to over $30,000. The Association has also been an active part of the University of Michigan Alumni Association and several members have served on the Class Officers Council. The Association also publishes a newsletter several times a year which informs members of the activities of other alumni.
