Biographical History
Poultney Bigelow, son of John Bigelow, was born in New York and raised in France, where his father was consul, and Germany, where he became friends with Prince William, later emperor of Germany. He was educated at Yale, and began practicing law, but was more interested in politics and writing. He is perhaps best remembered as a journalist; he was editor of Outing magazine and later covered the Spanish-American war in the Philippines. Bigelow travelled extensively, and numbered among his correspondents some of the best-known figures in Europe and America. He died in 1954.
Poultney Bigelow (1855-1954) was a journalist, author and world traveler. He was the son of John Bigelow, the American Ambassador to France under Abraham Lincoln, and accompanied his father on diplomatic travels. After graduating from Yale University and Columbia Law School, Poultney Bigelow was active largely as a journalist and author based in New York and London. He had close ties with the German emperor, Wilhelm II, and espoused controversial views concerning politics and world affairs. In addition to his extensive travels, he published eleven books, including a two-volume autobiography. He died at the age of 98 at his home in Malden-on-Hudson, New York.
Brisben was an American author and journalist.
