Biographical History
J.C. McPheeters was born in 1889. He graduated from Marvin College in 1909. He continued his education at Meridian College where he also taught greek and latin from 1910 to 1911. From 1912 to 1922 he was a conference evangelist and minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. From 1923-1931 he was the pastor of the University Methodist Church in Tucson, Arizona. In 1931 he was appointed to the Glide Memorial Methodist Church in San Francisco. From 1942 to 1962 he served as president of Asbury Theological Seminary, but it was not until 1948 that he left Glide to be full time president of the seminary. He edited the Pentecostal Herald, and later the Herald until 1974 and maintained a full calendar of speaking engagements at camp meetings, Deeper Life and prayer conferences. McPheeters involved himself in hunting, fishing, waterskiing and vigorous daily exercise until he suffered a stroke at the age of 94 in 1983. He died on Oct. 31 of that year.
