Freedman, David, 1898-1936

Freedman was born 1898; graduated College of the City of NY and worked on the NY Evening mail; wrote short stories such as The intellectual lover and created Mendel Marantz, East Side philosopher, a character in magazine stories and later a published book; he worked as a writer for Eddie Cantor (1931-34), but left over a disagreement; wrote for numerous other radio programs such as the Ken Murray Show, The Chase and Sanborn hour, and Baby Snooks; at the time of his death, Freedman had a case against Eddie Cantor for an alleged breach of contract; died Dec. 8, 1936.

Freedman was the son of a Romanian political refugee, and grew up in a New York tenement; studied mathematics and music; wrote short stories; later wrote material for comedians, plays, books of Broadway musicals, and wrote and produced several radio programs; published books include Mendel Marantz (1925) and The intellectual lover and other stories (1940).
