Professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University, 1964-1973, and director of the Engineering Case Program.

Fuchs, an expert on fatique in metals, taught mechanical engineering at Stanford University from 1964 to 1973, when he became an Emeritus Professor. He was educated in France and Germany, earning his Ph.D. in 1932 from the Technical University in Karlsruhe, Germany. Before coming to Stanford, he was an engineer with General Motors (1933-45) and president of Metal Improvement Company (1946-60), where he designed the shot peening process. While at Stanford he directed the Engineering Case Program, writing or supervising the production of more than 200 case studies. He died in 1989.
